We know that individuals with self-harm behaviors have a dysfunctional relationship with themselves, based on a negative, flawed, devalued or even detested view of the self. We also know that these individuals present more psychopathology and some of them, in adulthood, may fill the criteria for borderline personality pathology. This research aims to understand the phenomenology of self-harm behaviors and the contribution of self-criticism and shame for its patoplasty. The sample is composed of 81 adolescents (40 are normal, 22 have psychopathology and 19 have psychopathology and self-harm behaviors). The results indicate that adolescents with self-harm behaviors have higher rates of self-criticism, internal shame and dissociation. These adolescents establish a social group with insecure attachment and low proximity and present more depression. In adolescents with psychopathology, a vision of the self as inferior, defective and small contributes significantly to depression.Downloads
