Abstract

The Literature’s place in a society is significantly marked by the school. Using the Brazilian National Curriculum as a starting point, this article presents a reflection about the literary canon in teaching context. For that, I considered the proposal of the Common New National Curricular Base as regards to Literature in high school. Since it reflects recent discussion about the curriculum in Brazil, we can think about some aspects to guide the work in the classroom. In the confrontation between the curricular proposal and the school reality is the teacher, in his/her role of defining ways through which the literary can prevail; the job of filling the gaps regarding the authors and books to be worked on mostly belongs – which is a fundamental task to retain Literature that, starting at school, can project itself throughout life.
