This paper focuses on the relevant part played by the town of Porto de Mós - geographically located on the lime massif of Estremadura - in the Medieval history of Portugal. It assesses the consecration of the municipality by King Afonso Henriques and the issue on the authenticity of D. Fuas Roupinho, the town's first mayor. Furthermore, it clarifies the town's strategic positioning in terms of the road network, the exploration of its economic resources, its institutional landlords and the role of the Provencal immigrants and Jews in the social fabric of Porto de Mós.
