The study begins by contextualising the charter of Porto de Mós granted in 1305 by King D. Dinis, under the monarch's political, economic, social and cultural governance programme, which envisaged completing the Kingdom's identity and composition.
This is followed by a description of the ties linking Kings D. Afonso III, D. Dinis and D. Isabel to Porto de Mós, before it was granted the charter which sanctioned past uses and customs.
Last, the charter is analysed in detail, with especial focus on the governing structure and the legal, social and economic framework here under, thus providing a better grasp of the legal framework of the municipal memory and the foundations of local power in the town of Porto de Mós.
