Abstract

In this article, we propose to analyze Nadja (1928), by André Breton, under the aspect of the photoliterary relations established by use of photographs in its composition. Composed of the association between text and photographic images, this work offers numerous possibilities of analysis, among which the photoliterary evocation of death. We will demonstrate how the relations between text and image act in the construction of the topic of death in this work. For this, we count on the theoretical contribution of Photoliterary Studies (Montier, 2008; 2015; Grojnowski, 2002) and in particular on the critical explorations of the work focused on this theme, as well as theorists who have dedicated themselves to reflect on the relations between literature, photography, empty space, absence and death.
