It is an unquestionable and obvious fact that there is a new type of journalism today. Nevertheless, the need for a new ethics as a correlate of this reality is not so obvious or unquestionable. While it is true that there are new variables, such as the predominance of media groups, and new categories, such as web journalism, whose ethical implications should be assessed, professionals seem to consider that the existing deontological norms in current journalistic practices are sufficient. In fact, these norms reflect fundamental, transverse, and timeless ethical principles that could be collated under the principle of responsibility and directed towards an imperative of the same order.
