After a bibliographical survey about the different definition and typologies of political populism (Wieviorka, 1993; Eco, 2006; Engesser et al, 2018; Judis, 2017; and others), we tried to create a populist behavior matrix, with special focus to the three classic areas of political ideology: left, center and right. Having created this matrix, we compared and applied Jair Bolsonaro’s behavior from an analysis of his speech to the UN General Assembly on 24 September 2019, and managed to create a populist behavior matrix for the Brazilian president. We believe that this study, besides confirming Bolsonaro’s typology of populism, can help the citizen to predict the 21 narrative characteristics this politician uses to try to shape Brazilian public opinion.
