One of the consequences of the advances of medicine and the fall of fertility was the increase in life expectancy, observed in the developing and developed countries. Thus, the biggest challenge for this century will be to maintain older people active, independent and participative, as recommended by World Health Organization. The world of work has to guarantee workers’ freedom of choice, between retirement and continuation in the labour market, as well as the necessary measures for their future well being. In this article ageism (prejudice against age), attitudes towards retirement, renovation of elderly workers, as well as the Retirement Planning Program will be discussed. Furthermore, intergenerational projects will also be presented for an exchange of knowledge and experience between older and younger workers, as a valuable transfer process of human and historical knowledge within organizations.Downloads
