This research paper addresses the study of third level agenda setting (NAS, network agenda setting) in the digital age, by reviewing the most recent publications of Professor Maxwell McCombs. The method used in this research is twofold: a bibliometric analysis of his work about NAS in recent years (2010-2017) and a deep analysis of his most relevant reports during the periods dedicated to network agenda setting in the current information ecosystem.
By studying McCombs’ most recent articles (2010-2017) we can follow the new trends and the evolution of the agenda setting theory, backed with several research projects that suggest solid conclusions towards the development and progress of this half-century old communication model.
This also opens new and broader horizons to the study of the agenda setting theory within the frame of the new media and the social networks in the contemporary media landscape, which is constantly evolving.
