The text addresses the issue of popular and alternative communication amid the controversies of the manifestations of utopian and anti-utopian “independent” media. The objective is to discuss the reinvigoration of Popular Communication in the internet age and the transcendence of alternative media today in the face of the intensification of mediativism and, in a certain sense, the emergence of some developments - not always as alternative or independent as they may seem at first sight. It is concluded that Popular, Community and Alternative Communication plays an important role in the construction of a fair and free world. In particular, alternative media have attested to a diversity of expressions, but their intrinsic characteristics in their origins are loaded with alternativity of a libertarian character.
