The journal came in 1994, by the hand of Professor Fernando Rebelo, geographer, along with four other doctors in Physical Geography and quickly distinguished by the quality and diversity of subjects printed, which mostly derived from papers presented in the "Meetings of Natural and Urban Hazards 'realized in Coimbra, becoming the first Portuguese journal specialized in the field of Physical Geography applied to the Spatial Planning and Natural Hazards Management.

Ten years later, in 2004, Territorium passed ownership of the newly formed RISCOS Association.

Two years later, suffers an extensive renovation, the most visible in the format and layout, with the introduction of color, although the deeper resulted from the creation of: an Redaction Board; an Editorial Committee that incorporated a wide range of experts linked to cyndinic science with extensive experience and from different scientific areas; a set of highly Scientific Consultants, from prestigious universities of the Western world.

The multidisciplinary of the subjects discussed by the authors from different areas of education was early a bet to the scientific council of the journal.

In 2015, it was given a new design to Territorium journal, as a result of passing to be edited in cooperation with the Press of the University of Coimbra. The cover comes to occupy the entire page, each article was assigned a DOI – Digital Object Identifier and its organs were reshaped, going to include: Founding Members, Director, Associate Editors and an Editorial Board even further extended to others locations around the world.

Over the several numbers so far published, several subjects related to risk prevention and safety were examined: climate change, forest fire, floods, erosion, instability and landslides, tectonics and volcanology, health risks, theory of risk, risk information and communication, etc.

Risk awareness, perception of his dangers and crisis management are key assumptions for not only a serious prevention but also to minimize his effects of the full manifestation of the risks, catastrophes, objectives for which Territorium - as a reference journal - will remain committed to working and promotion.
